Create the Perfect Lighting in your home

Create the Perfect Lighting in your home

Light is an amazing thing but also something that gets taken for granted. After coming home and flicking on the lights, we think nothing more of it until it's time to turn them off and head up to bed. What most people don't realise is that the lighting in your home can play a huge part in the way you feel as well as helping or hindering the way you perform your daily tasks.

Bad lighting can become apparent the second you step into a room. This can come in the form of lighting that are too bright, too dim, or badly placed. One thing you always need to avoid in your home is having living spaces that feel like offices or waiting rooms with lighting that is far too bright. For example, a sitting room should be an informal place to relax and socialise in comfort. Strip or florescent lighting in these places is almost always too harsh, giving a more formal atmosphere and making it much harder to relax. Living spaces should be lit effectively to minimise discomfort and create a more laid back ambience. Lindsey Adelman writes "If a room is lit the right way, everyone looks their best and feels relaxed and comfortable, but they don't know why", [http://www.lindseyadelman.com/] and it is true! It is much easier to spend longer periods of time in comfortable surroundings and many people can be affected by bad lighting without knowing it is actually the lighting that is making them feel the way they do.

Changing the lighting in your home is something that is very quick and easy to do nowadays, and there are thousands of different options available. Quality lamps and lampshades can be used to drastically soften the lighting in your home and they make an immediate difference. Lights and Linen have a great range of home lighting ranging from large floor lamps for the living room to bedroom and bathroom lighting (http://www.lightsandlinen.co.uk).

As well as affecting the way you feel, light has a great impact on how well we can carry out day to day tasks. Badly lit rooms make it hard for us to find what we need. Dim lighting in hallways can increase the chance of tripping or falling, and bright bedroom lighting can sometimes make it impossible to unwind or fall to sleep. Many of these issues may seem obvious but lighting is most certainly one thing that is overlooked and often ignored in many households even though it is also one of the things in a home that can make the biggest difference.

For more lighting ideas or if it is time to give your home a facelift then I suggest visiting the Lights and Linen website (http://lightsandlinen.co.uk/lighting.html) who stock a good selection of quality lighting products.
